The Angus Horticultural Society hosted their annual Flower and Vegetable Show and Tea on September 23, gathering together to appreciate one another’s hard work, and recognizing members of the community.

This year’s show displayed the efforts of 11 exhibitors, with a total of 61 entries in various categories. Judge of the exhibits, Janice Schmidt, commended the exhibitors for their presentations; especially given the irregular weather we have experienced this summer.

Following delicious homemade refreshments, it was time for awards. Individuals who competed in the show were acknowledged first, followed by those who entered their yards in the Beautification Contest.

This year, the Beautification Award for Businesses was expanded to include public spaces.  Third place was awarded to Angus and District Lions Club, second went to the Angus Union Cemetery, and first place went to Peacekeeper’s Park.

Fern Taillefer, President of the Peacekeeping Association’s Central Ontario Chapter was in attendance, and humbly accepted the award.

“It’s a place to go and visit and relax,. It’s a beautiful park,” he remarked. “We have benches to sit down and enjoy, especially for the Veterans to go and think about friends. Their names are on the wall, and they come down to have coffee, and they talk to the guys who are on the wall. It’s an incredible feeling. Our chapter’s members are so proud, and they work so hard to do things for that park.”

Peacekeeper’s Park will be engraved on a plaque that will hang in Angus Home Hardware, and they received an award certificate and gift certificate for Bradford Greenhouse.

“On Saturday we’re having our chapter meeting, so this is perfect timing. I can’t wait to show them what we’ve got. It’s a total surprise,” said Taillefer.

Congratulations to all winners, and thank you for making Angus a beautiful place to live!
