Local Doctor retires after 51 years

Sharon Harting, Administrative Assistant, Dr. Laforest, and his wife

On June 28, patients, family, friends, and Essa Council attended a get-together at Dr. Laforest’s office to celebrate his retirement and thank him for 51 years of dedicated service.  Dr. Laforest’s medical career started in 1968 after joining the Canadian Armed Forces and graduating from the Laval Medical School.  He was posted to Base Borden at that time.  After leaving the military, Dr. Laforest, or “Doc” as he became known to many, operated a family practice locally and served at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston, where he worked in emergency, surgery, and even delivered babies.  Some families in the area have been part of Doc’s practice for 3 generations! We all wish Doc and his wife Lee the very best of health and happiness in their retirement years.

All the office furniture and medical equipment was graciously donated to the Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay for its distribution and use in deserving communities in northern Canada and Tanzania.
