There was music in the air this summer as military musicians from the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre (CFLTC) Music Division put on their first concert performances in nearly three years.

In addition to staff, the Wind Band and Pipes and Drums Band are each made up of more than 50 student reservists attending their musician trade course at Borden. The bands performed two concerts for the public in Borden and Barrie, featuring a range of musical pieces. There was a little something for everyone, with classic marches to Cuban-inspired dance music.

Both summer concerts were offered with free admission for a chance for the community to hear military musicians from across the country perform.

More than 50 staff and student reservists make up the CFLTC Wind Band, which features the flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trumpet, euphonium, tuba, bass and percussion instruments.

“It’s been excellent to be back together rehearsing and performing as a group,” said Lt(N) Luca Peveroni, Conductor at the Music Division of CFLTC. “Social distancing made any kind of collective music-making impossible, and while during some of the less restrictive [periods] musicians could play together, having a full audience was very difficult.”

Music trade courses run all year, and in person from May to August. Lt(N) Peveroni shared his excitement at being able to not only showcase what the students accomplished during their time at Borden, but also share that music with a live audience after such a long time away.
