On Monday, 16 august six lucky recipients were awarded Base Fund Scholarships of $1,000 each to support their post-secondary education. 

Base Fund Scholarships promote a sense of community in CFB Borden/MPGTG and encourage furthering education beyond high school. Those eligible include graduating students who have completed high school and who are dependent children of members of the Base Borden Defence Team. 

“Very impressive bios,” Col Taylor, 16 Wing Commander at CFB Borden said of the chosen recipients. “I talked to the team who reviewed them all, incredibly great work both academically and achievement in the community. Really well done, I wish you all the best in your future academic endeavours and afterwards.” 

Col Taylor joined the base after this year’s scholarships had been awarded by the committee, made up of the 16 Wing Commander as chair and two other appointed members. This year’s committee included LCol Cadeau, LCol Brown and LCol Singh. 

Congratulations to the 2021 Base Fund Scholarship recipients!

1. 1. Meagan Daley from Borden, ON will be attending Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, ON to study Aviation Technology.

2. Loic Gunn from Angus, ON will be attending Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia to obtain a Bachelor of Science.

3. Jessica Spurrell from Angus, ON will be attending Humber College in Etobicoke to obtain a Bachelor of Music. 

4. Leah Mar from Everett, ON will be attending Brescia University College in London, ON to obtain a Bachelor of Arts. Leah is the daughter of Wes Mar from the Comptroller Branch, who accepted the award on her behalf while she was at work.

5. Seung Yoon Yang from Toronto, ON will be attending University of Western Ontario to obtain a Bachelor of Medical Sciences. Seung Yoon is the daughter of Cpl Insuk Yang from 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, who accepted the award on her behalf while she was at work.

6. Sarah Bungay from Borden, ON was awarded the Tenacity scholarship. She will be attending the University of Ottawa to obtain an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in Criminology. Sarah is the daughter of Capt Rob Bungay of Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering (CFSATE).

Des enfants de militaires reçoivent des bourses d’études postsecondaires

Le lundi 16 août, six enfants de militaires ont eu le bonheur de recevoir des bourses d’études du Fonds de la base d’une valeur de 1 000 $ pour aider au financement de leurs études postsecondaires. 

Les bourses d’études du Fonds de la base favorisent le sentiment d’appartenance à la communauté de la BFC Borden et du GIGPM et encouragent les jeunes à poursuivre leurs études après l’école secondaire. Pour être admissible, un jeune doit avoir terminé ses études secondaires et être l’enfant à charge d’un membre de l’Équipe de la Défense de la BFC Borden. 

« Ces parcours sont impressionnants », a déclaré le Col Taylor, commandant de la 16^e escadre à la BFC Borden, au sujet des lauréats. « J’ai discuté avec l’équipe responsable de tous les examiner. Bravo pour ce travail incroyable, tant sur le plan académique que sur le plan des réalisations au sein de la communauté. Je vous souhaite beaucoup de succès dans vos études et par la suite. » 

Le Col Taylor a rejoint la base après que les bourses de cette année aient été attribuées par le comité, lequel était composé du commandant de la 16^e escadre (président) et de deux autres membres nommés. Ainsi, le comité de cette année comprenait le Lcol Cadeau, le Lcol Brown et le Lcol Singh.

Elle part pour l’Université d’Ottawa dans le but d’obtenir un baccalauréat en sciences sociales avec spécialisation en criminologie. Sarah est la fille du Capt Rob Bungay de l’École de technologie et du génie aérospatial des Forces canadiennes (ETGAFC).
