At Blackdown’s battalion parade this past Saturday, the special guest was the Reviewing Officer, Sir Thomas Colvin William Ingilby, 6th Baron of Ripley Castle and Harrington, who spent the morning at the training centre. Accompanying Sir Thomas was the Tewit Youth Band from the Harrogate District in the United Kingdom, who were in the area as a part of a cultural exchange between the City of Barrie and Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England.
In his remarks to the cadets, Sir Thomas spoke about his family’s history and their relationship to Sir Robert Barrie. Sir Robert was a British officer in the Royal Navy who was noted for his service in the War of 1812, and whom the City of Barrie is named after. In concluding his address to the cadets on parade, Sir Thomas commended the cadets for attending the training centre this summer and remarked how, through their participation in the cadet program, were proud ambassadors of Canada.
On parade that morning with the Blackdown cadets was the Tewit Youth Band. Although, primarily a concert band, they marched on parade as part of a massed band with the Blackdown band, and played several pieces of music with the cadets during the parade.
Following the battalion parade, the band from Tewit assembled in the band building with the cadets of Juliet Company and performed a selection of music. The cadets then played several pieces of music for them. All of the band members enjoyed the opportunity to see each other play and learn from each other. Following their performances, the cadets and members of the Tewit Youth Band spent time getting to know each other over lunch in the Blackdown mess.
According to Gabriel Snowden, a 17-year-old member of the Tewit Band, “Blackdown was a brilliant day out for me and the band. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the different styles of the cadet band and seeing the parade, and I hope the cadets enjoyed our music too, because we certainly enjoyed playing it!”
Au parade de bataillon de Blackdown samedi dernier, un invité spécial était l’officier de revue. Monsieur Thomas Colvin William Ingilby, 6e baron du château de Ripley et Harrington a passé la matinée au centre d’entraînement. Monsieur Thomas était accompagnée de la bande de jeunes Tewit du district de Harrogate au Royaume-Uni. Ils étaient dans la région dans le cadre d’un échange culturel entre la ville de Barrie et Harrogate dans le North Yorkshire, en Angleterre.

En concluant son discours aux cadets lors du défilé, Monsieur Thomas a félicité les cadets d’assister au centre d’entraînement cet été et a fait remarquer que grâce à leur participation au programme des cadets, ils étaient de fiers ambassadeurs du Canada.
Lors du parade ce matin avec les cadets Blackdown, il y avait la bande de jeunes Tewit. Bien que principalement une bande de concert, ils ont marchés dans le cadre d’un groupe de musique avec le groupe Blackdown et ont joué plusieurs morceaux de musique avec les cadets pendant le parade.
À la suite du parade du bataillon, la bande de Tewit s’est réunie dans le bâtiment de la bande avec les cadets du comapgnie Juliet et a effectué une sélection de musique pour les cadets. Les cadets ont ensuite joué plusieurs morceaux de musique pour eux. Tous les membres du groupe ont eu l’occasion de se voir jouer et d’apprendre les uns des autres. À la suite de leurs performances, les cadets et les membres de la troupe de jeunes Tewit ont passé du temps à faire connaissance pendant le dîner dans le mess des Blackdown.
Selon Gabriel Snowden, un membre du groupe Tewit âgé de 17 ans, «Blackdown a été une journée brillante pour moi et la groupe. Je suis amusé dans notre groups et j’espère que les cadets ont aimé notre musique aussi parce que nous avons certainement aimé jouer! “
