The CFB Borden CANEX store has been working diligently to provide the goods and services they always have, while adjusting to keep both their staff and patrons safe and secure. It is top priority for CANEX to continue to serve the Canadian Armed Forces members in and around CFB Borden during this time.
“At this time, we are doing what we do best, which is maintaining operations the best way we can to support the CAF community, their dependents, as well as the extended Defence Team,” Tom Bennett, Acting Store Manager commented.
Safety is paramount, and numerous actions have been taken to ensure that staff and patrons feel safe and comfortable while serving or being served at CANEX Borden, according to Bennett.
“We’ve been constantly implementing (safety measures) to our location including hanging barriers at all of the cash locations to protect both the staff and customers. We have all the proper protocols posted on our doors associated with hand washing, and social distancing – we have put lines on the floors leading up to the cash locations to aid in social distancing – so people can be six-feet apart while waiting to check out. We have provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to our staff (gloves, hand sanitizer), while encouraging them to wash their hands on a much more than regular basis.”
Keeping up morale, and checking in with staff is something Bennett likes to do to keep a pulse on ensuring that safety measures are being adhered to, and that morale and welfare are checked on regularly.
“We’re providing communications multiple times a day. We have what we call our ‘safety circles’ to reiterate what proper procedures are needed for their safety and the safety of our customers.”
Further measures, such as cleaning (and disinfecting) the common “ high-touch areas” including door handles, carts, and countertops – the areas that customers and staff would come in contact with occur on a regular basis.
At the end of the day it is all about safety and security for all clients and the team at CANEX Borden, Bennett emphasized.
“Anything that we can do to protect our team, and provide safety for our clients is paramount; so we are stepping everything up in order to keep everyone safe. We are here to support where we can as a base entity, and part of CFMWS. We are trying to maintain regular hours where possible, and we will continue to do that for the foreseeable future. This will pass, as long as we look after ourselves, our staff and customers we will get through this as a team.”
