CAF Men’s Slo-Pitch

The 2016 National Men’s Slo-Pitch championship took place from the 26-28 August here at CFB Borden. This year’s championship had the closest round robin games as all of the games were within a few runs. This tournament also made CAF history as it featured the first extra inning game in Nationals Slo-pitch since the start of Slo-Pitch in the CAF.
After the round robin CFB Gagetown (Atlantic) was in first, CFB Kingston 2nd (Ontario), CFB Shilo 3rd (Prairie), CFSU Ottawa 4th (Quebec) and CFB Esquimalt (Pacific) was 5th . The semi-final saw CFSU Ottawa take on CFB Gagetown in a great 1 vs 4 game. This game came down to the final innings and an upset as CFSU Ottawa defeated CFB Gagetown 22-20. The second semi-final was also a barn-burner as CFB Kingston took on CFB Shilo in the 2 vs 3 game. This one also came down to the final inning as CFB Kingston defeated Shilo 16-15 to advance to the final.
The final game was the 2 vs 4 seed as CFB Kingston and CFSU Ottawa took to the field. The game started off slow with a few runs scored by each team in the first 3 innings. Then CFSU Ottawa’s bats came alive in the 3rd inning and they started scoring several runs in each inning. CFB Kingston tried to keep pace but struggled with their hitting for the rest of the game. CFSU Ottawa’s bats stayed hot and they pushed ahead 24-9 in the top of the sixth inning. Kingston had one more chance in the bottom of the 6th to score a few runs to stay in the game but came up short. CFSU Ottawa took the game in the bottom of the sixth on run differential 24-9. Congratulations to CFSU Ottawa, the 2016 CAF National Men’s Slo-pitch Champions. This win gave Ottawa back to back championships, as they were the 2015 Champions. The tournament was well played, congratulations to all the teams!

Balle lente masculine des FAC
Le championnat national masculin de balle lente de 2016 a eu lieu du 26 au 28 août à la BFC Borden. Le championnat de cette année a connu les parties à la ronde les plus serrées, alors que toutes les parties se terminaient à quelques points d’écart seulement. Le tournoi a également marqué l’histoire des FAC puisque pour la première fois au cours d’un championnat national de balle lente depuis l’entrée de la balle lente dans les sports des FAC, les joueurs ont dû jouer une manche supplémentaire.
Après les parties à la ronde, la BFC Gagetown (Atlantique) était première, la BFC Kingston (Ontario) était deuxième, la BFC Shilo (Prairies) était troisième, l’USFC Ottawa (Québec) était quatrième et la BFC Esquimalt (Pacifique) était cinquième. En demi-finale, l’USFC Ottawa (3e au classement) a affronté la BFC Gagetown (1re au classement). Cette partie s’est décidée aux dernières manches et l’USFC Ottawa a battu la BFC Gagetown 22 à 20. La deuxième demi-finale était tout aussi excitante, alors que la BFC Kingston (2e au classement) a affronté la BFC Shilo (3e au classement). Cette partie s’est aussi décidée aux dernières manches, alors que la BFC Kingston a défait la BFC Shilo 16 à 15 pour se rendre en finale.
Les 2e et 4e équipes se sont affrontées à la dernière partie. La BFC Kingston et l’USFC Ottawa sont entrées sur le terrain. La partie a commencé lentement avec quelques points de chaque côté pendant les trois premières manches. Au cours de la troisième manche, l’USFC Ottawa a ouvert la machine et elle a commencé à marquer plusieurs points à chaque manche. La BFC Kingston a tenté de garder le rythme, mais les joueurs ont eu de la difficulté à frapper la balle pour le restant de la partie. Les bâtons de l’USFC Ottawa n’ont pas refroidi et l’équipe a poussé son avance à 24-9 au début de la sixième manche. Kingston a eu une autre chance de marquer à la fin de la sixième manche afin de rester dans la partie, mais elle n’a pas réussi. L’USFC Ottawa a remporté la partie à la fin de la sixième avec un écart considérable de 24 à 9. Félicitations à l’USFC Ottawa, les champions nationaux masculins de balle lente des FAC de 2016. Cette victoire a permis à Ottawa de remporter un deuxième championnat d’affilée puisqu’ils étaient aussi champions en 2015.
