Momentous awards were given to members who went above and beyond in their respective fields and deeds
The second floor of building O-119 on CFB Borden saw proud members and their families awaiting the Base Commander’s arrival on 28 November 2023 to celebrate three individuals who performed outstanding work in their respective fields and aided others in need.
Corporal Kyle Chaput was recognized with a Base Commander Commendation for stopping a fire at one of the Residential Housing Units on CFB Borden.
Base Commander Colonel Jonathan Michaud shared his appreciation and recognition of Cpl Chaput’s act of service by addressing him in front of all in attendance.
“Your quick action on that day saved many lives,” Col Michaud said. “We don’t know what the outcome could have been, but it’s truly amazing that you put yourself in that position and took action.”
Cpl Chaput’s actions effectively minimized the potential damage that the outdoor fire may have imposed on Borden residents.
The Base Commander Commendation recognizes deeds or efforts that go beyond the demand of normal duty.
“I salute you for what you did on that day. It speaks to your character, your professionalism and the attention you have towards other members. On behalf of everybody in the community, thank you,” said Col Michaud.
Cpl Chaput’s wife Faith and Grandmother Johanna were also present to celebrate this momentous achievement.
The DM/CDS Regional Achievement Award followed the Base Commander Commendation and recognized two individuals at the regional level who have developed and fostered networks with stakeholders to improve on and share initiatives and best practices in their given field.
Master Corporal Huynh and James Wells from Tech Services were asked to step forward for their work done on the CFB Borden Communications and Information Radio Shop which has seen implementation at high profile events in addition to providing expert advice in developing radio systems.
As Col Michaud applauded their contributions to Tech Services, raising productivity, saving on costs and overall increasing the value of the services provided, he shared his thanks with both MCpl Huynh and Wells.
“I want to take the time to highlight your amazing contributions and the work that you do day in and day out,” Col Michaud said. “It often goes unnoticed but is so critical to what we do… Well done.”
