It was a great turnout for this year’s annual tree lighting ceremony put on by the Base Borden Community Council (BBCC) at CFB Borden, with the event getting back to pre-pandemic traditions.
Nearly 200 people attended the ceremony, which aimed to bring the community together and kick off the holiday season. Hayrides were offered free of charge, as were coffee and hot chocolate generously donated by the Tim Horton’s located on base. The Borden Military Wives Choir provided entertainment, performing Christmas carols. For anyone who couldn’t attend in person, the event was also live-streamed.
“This holiday season is a time to reflect and spend with friends and family,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Denman, BBCC Mayor. “Please ensure you stay safe and look out for one another over the holidays.”
PO1 Denman thanked organizing members of the BBCC, BFRC, SISP, PSP and the Borden Military Wives Choir for making the event possible.
Base Commander Colonel Jonathan Michaud encouraged the community to take the time to check in on friends and coworkers who might be struggling in the days leading up to the holidays.
“Not everybody is able to celebrate the holidays, and it’s important that everyone knows that they’re not alone,” said Col Michaud.
The illuminated tree can be seen through the holiday season on Dieppe Road, between the two chapels.
In case you missed it, the event live-stream is still available. Watch it here.
