The previous articles focused on food security, food literacy, food sovereignty, and sustainable food systems respectively, as ingredients for a healthier tomorrow. This week for part 5, let’s explore the final key ingredient for a healthier tomorrow: nutrition care and prevention.
Nutrition care and prevention consists of helping individuals make the right choices for their current health conditions and to help them make the right choices to prevent future health issues. Examples of nutrition care and prevention include the available education and programs for specific populations, such as pregnant women and individuals with diabetes. Dietitians will work with these specific populations to help them deal with their current health situations.
There are also many programs available to help individuals with regards to prevention. Education and awareness will help reduce the risk of suffering from certain health issues, such as cancer and heart disease. Knowing what to eat can help prevent future health issues. Dietitians of Canada help Canadians with these choices in many different ways, including programs, campaigns and of course through education and counselling.

March is Nutrition Month is an annual campaign lead by the Dietitians of Canada. This year’s theme for the campaign is ”Ingredients for a Healthier Tomorrow”. The five key “ingredients” that will be featured this month that promote a sustainable food system are food security, food literacy, food sovereignty, sustainable food choices, nutrition care and prevention.
