It’s not every day you see a goat at the library. They were just one of the attractions at the Family Fun Night fundraiser at Essa Public Library (EPL) on 18 August, which raised $1,592.
The parking lot outside the Angus branch was busy with families enjoying outdoor games and activities, refreshments, and face painting during the end-of-summer event. Library staff were blown away by the turnout for their first big event after a two-year hiatus.
“Not only did everyone have a blast playing games, meeting some furry critters, and connecting as a community, but the support in donations when above and beyond our expectations,” said Holly Elliott, Coordinator of Children and Family Experiences at EPL.
Essa Fire Department was on site with a firetruck doing equipment demonstrations for the kids, and Starbucks Angus offered refreshments for donations. Also available for a $2 donation were hot dogs from Country Meat Cuts & Lucy’s Kitchen.
“People were truly generous and let us know that they appreciate the library and want to see great things continue in the future,” said Elliott.
Funds raised will support supplies for library programs, enhanced furnishings, and new items for the collection, including books, videos, popular maker kits, kitchen equipment and more.
“The library is always here for our patrons and donations make it possible for us to support programming and services that have the biggest impact and benefit for our community,” Elliott said. “This event proves that even small donations really add up to make a difference.”
