On Saturday 10 August, the BBCC (Base Borden Community Council) had their summer beautification contest. This is an opportunity to give thanks and recognition to those in the Residential Housing Units (RHU’s) who go that extra mile to not only keep the maintenance of their property up, but also those who display above average beautification of their respective property.
The judging team consisted of CFB Borden Commander, Col Atherton, CWO Pereira acting BCWO, Cdr Gauthier BBCC Mayor, PO1 Denman BBCC Deputy Mayor, Connie Knuff Personnel Support Programs (PSP) rep and, we had the chance to have Wendy Harry, the President of the Essa Horticultural Society, help with the judging.
After driving around the RHU’s, the panel whittled the competition down to three houses as finalists, and five honourable mentions.
The first place home was awarded to 67 Coriano Crescent, second place was 25 Moro Loop and third place went to 22 Moro Loop.
The judging panel took many aspects of beautification into consideration when deciding on the winner, some factors included: cleanliness of the yard, the grass being well maintained and the aesthetics of the garden and overall beautification of the property.

Le samedi 10 août, le Conseil communautaire de la BFC Borden (CCBB) tenait son concours d’embellissement estival. Il s’agissait d’une occasion de remercier et récompenser les résidents d’unités de logement résidentiel (ULR) qui font un effort supplémentaire non seulement pour bien entretenir leur propriété, mais aussi pour en assurer l’embellissement.
Le jury du concours était constitué du commandant de la BFC Borden, le Col Atherton, de l’Adjuc par intérim de la base Pereira, du maire du CCBB, le Capf Gauthier, du maire adjoint de la CCBB, le M 1 Denman, d’une représentante des programmes de soutien du personnel (PSP), Connie Knuff, et nous avons eu la chance de recevoir Wendy Harry, présidente de la Société horticole Essa pour les assister lors des délibérations.
Après avoir fait le tour des ULR, le jury a réduit le nombre de finalistes à trois maisons en plus de donner cinq mentions honorables.
La première place est allée au 67, croissant Coriano, la deuxième au 25, boucle Moro et la troisième au 22, boucle Moro.
Le jury a pris en considération de nombreux critères d’embellissement pour le choix du gagnant, notamment la propreté de la cour, l’entretien du gazon, l’esthétique du jardin et l’embellissement général de la propriété.
