On Saturday 24 September, residents of Base Borden and the surrounding community attended the family fun Borden Blast event.
Formerly called Welcome to Borden, the free event was geared towards welcoming newly posted members and their families to the base, a fun, social way to meet their neighbours and learn about the different services offered on and around Base Borden.
With face painting, bouncy castles, a petting zoo, and the popular Kiddie Commando obstacle course, there was plenty of fun to be had by the kids. But there was fun for the older crowd too, with a craft beer tent and jumbo games. A car show was also on display in the event grounds, as well as displays from the Borden Fire and Military Police academies.
The event had been rescheduled from their original date, which fell during the National Mourning Period for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The same day, the Fall Craft Sale took place, with 78 vendors filling the parking lot of the Andy Anderson Arena. The National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC) event in support of the United Way takes place twice annually, with the next one set for spring 2023.
