The Story of Three Boys from Britain

Three young men, George Painter, Robert Gittens and Percy Williams, part of the placement of Home Children through the Fegan’s Boys Home in April of 1937, met on their voyage over to Canada from England on the RMS Duchess of Atholl.

Forming a lasting friendship, the three remained in contact while the working as farm hands in Ontario.

When war was declared, the young men made the journey to Toronto and signed up together. All three were enlisted into the Royal Regiment of Canada. Two of the three completed their training at Camp Borden. The three being reunited before heading to France to participate in Operation Jubilee on August 19, 1942. Unfortunately for the trio they all perished that day.
