CFB Borden members gathered early on the morning of 26 May to participate in the annual Health and Fitness Day and 2023 RCAF Run.
“These days are fantastic,” Acting Base Commander Lieutenant-Colonel (LCol) David Feron said during the opening ceremonies. “No other organization in this country will give you the time off work to come here with these awesome facilities and do physical fitness.”
This year’s event, presented by Marchants and supported by BMO and The Running Room, included the usual physical activities – 5 km run, Amazing Race, swim stroke correction, and fittest soldier competition – along with an interesting expanded selection to support improved mental wellness. Mental health workshops included canvas painting, breath work, and even a financial health seminar offered by BMO experts.
“We know physical fitness is critical to your mental health, we know that it’s critical for your operational readiness, so you can get out there and be great soldiers, sailors and aviators, and do what the country asks you to do,” LCol Feron said.
