When we use the term “Mental Health” we refer to an individual’s state of mind. We know that individuals with a positive state of mind feel better, look better, and perform better. But are you aware that there is a direct correlation between an individual’s mental health and their physical health? Studies conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health suggests that there is a significant link between mental health and a wide range of physical ailments. Research also suggests a connection between mental health disorders and lack of self-care. During the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA’s) Mental Health Week, May 6 – 12, take the time to assess yourself. YOU should be the most important person in your life. Practice Self-Care for the sake of your own mental and physical health.
Challenge yourself to take a long hard look at how your mental state may be affecting not only you and your health, but also those around you. You deserve to be happy and healthy, and your mental health is a major factor in ensuring that you will be around to enjoy your loved ones for many years to come. The Borden Family Resource Centre can provide resources, referrals, and on-site counselling to help get you on the right path. Contact the Centre at 705-424-1200 ext. 1542 or 3994, or just drop by if you need to talk. Reach out. We will listen and we can help.
