Military members gathered around the parking lot outside the Hub at 1415 hrs. Followed by the raising of the CFLRS flag was the signing of the parchments by Commandant of the institution, Lieutenant Colonel Chung Wong and Base Commander Colonel Jonathan Michaud who attended as the guest of honor.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank CFLTC (Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre) for setting up for success,” said LCol Wong. “They have been running a decentralized BMQ in Borden over the last few years and they did an outstanding job. To the CFLRS division Delta staff, welcome to the CFLRS family. I’m confident that you will be delivering high quality BMQ training to our candidates the same way that we do in Saint-Jean.”

Base Commander Col Michaud took to the podium following LCol Wong to welcome the future members and thank the detachment for its outstanding work in upholding Canadian values within the CAF.

“Your commitment to inspiring training and developing a force capable of meeting the demands of tomorrow is of the utmost importance. Just as important though, is the method through which we achieve this mission,” said Base Commander Col Michaud.

“I know that as leaders your approach will prioritize inclusivity innovation and most importantly uphold the values Canadians expect of their military. By adhering to those principles, we set a benchmark for future generations of CAF members to follow and to emulate.”

According to the Government of Canada website, the CFLRS Detachment Borden has its own mission in mind when training recruits: “To shape, instruct and inspire candidates using innovative training methods geared towards resilience and transformational leadership in order to prepare them for their professional service in the CAF.”

While upholding the CAF values of duty, loyalty, integrity and courage, the BMQ training course is split 50 per cent classroom training and studying, 35 per cent field training and 15 per cent is devoted to physical training.

To join the CAF, applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, at least 18 years old (16 and 17 years old with parental consent) and have completed at least Grade 10, 24 credits of Secondary IV in Quebec or your Educational Credential Assessments (ECAs).

“The recruits arriving for training are the foundation of the CAF culture that we’re looking to grow within our ranks,” said Base Commander Col Michaud.

“Their journey starts at CFLRS within MPGTG (Military Personnel Generation Training Group) and I have confidence that the instructors from CFLRS teaching here are going to continue the great work that was established by CFLTC and the decentralized BMQ as well as the efforts done at CFLRS Saint-Jean.”
