MPU Borden: Message to owners of vehicles registered in Ontario

Effective 13 March 2022, the Province of Ontario eliminated licence plate renewal fees and the requirement to have a licence plate sticker for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds.

Vehicle owners are reminded that licence plates must be renewed at a Service Ontario (online or in person) prior to expiring. The renewal process will confirm that your automobile insurance is valid and will identify any outstanding tolls or other municipal fines. Once you have completed your renewal online or in-person, law enforcement will be instantly aware your licence plate has been renewed.

Failure to renew your licence plate could result in a ticket under Section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with a set fine of $85.00 (effective 01 Apr 22).
