Despite having a majority rookie team, Borden’s Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School took first place at the 18th annual Barrie Dragon Boat Festival this summer.

Held on 20 August at Heritage Park in Barrie, Ont., the fundraiser put on by the Barrie Public Library welcomed 24 teams from various organizations in the Barrie area. In its history, the event has raised over $2 million for local charities, the Barrie Public Library among them. This was the first event since 2019.

The RCEME team consisted of 20 staff, students and friends of the school, led by Sergeant Max Krob. They finished first in the platinum division and were this year’s recipient of the CFB Borden Dragon Masters Challenge Cup, finishing the 300-meter race on Kempenfelt Bay in just over one minute and 24 seconds.
