Members of surrounding communities in Barrie, Angus and Alliston came out to support Borden’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony at Legacy Park this year

On Saturday, 11 November members of the CFB Borden community and surrounding townships accumulated in front of Legacy Park to commemorate military members and their families, veterans and the fallen during the annual Remembrance Day ceremony.

Lining the sidewalks trailing off into Borden both members and civilians stood together as the Command Team arrived at the ceremony. The command team consists of Base Commander Colonel Jonathan Michaud, Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Wilcox and Honorary Colonel Jennifer Armstrong.

Following their arrival, the Command Team and the hundreds of attendees saluted proudly during the playing of ‘O Canada’. After the national anthem, Chaplain Graham Lawrence said a prayer and The Last Post was played on the trumpet.

“We commit ourselves anew to the duty of remembrance,” Chaplain Lawrence said. “Finding strength and resilience through the example of those that have gone before us. May our act of remembrance this day honour those we remember.”

Two minutes of silence were accompanied by the firing of blank artillery rounds which fired at both the beginning and end of the silence, echoing throughout the vast crowd.

The Rouse was played on a trumpet to indicate the end of the silence and subsequently led to the playing of The Lament on the bagpipes.

Once the bagpipes ceased, community and military members rose from their seats to lay wreaths at the feet of the Legacy Park monument.

One by one, Legacy Park saw the many faces that make up Borden and the surrounding communities take time to reflect on the sacrifices of loved ones and strangers in the CAF alike. To watch the live stream of the ceremony, click here.
