Our top priority through this challenging time has always been protecting the health and well-being of Ontarians. Huronia Historical Parks is committed to protecting the health and safety of our staff and visitors.
As a key tourism destination in South Central Ontario, offering two historic attractions and hosting a number of unique special events, we are dedicated to support Ontario’s efforts to stay home and help stop the spread of COVID-19. It is with this cooperative approach, that we have made the decision to create a digital event platform celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day. The event will be live virtually on June 21, and available on-demand for the remainder of the week. Typically, the event would see over 3,000 school kids and visitors welcomed to the site, but due to current public health measures, we have pivoted to providing an engaging experience through a series of live and pre-recorded online sessions.
The event will premiere live on our virtual platform on Monday, June 21, 2021 and be available on-demand until Friday, June 25, 2021.
Registration opens on Friday, May 28 via this link: hhp-events.ca. A preview of sessions and events can also be viewed at this site. Presenters, workshops and sessions will be added on an on-going basis. Check back often to plan your itinerary for Monday, June 21.
The content of online videos will be streamed through the event platform and will be free for registered schools and the general public to participate, as a way to connect them to unique Indigenous experiences. This virtual experience will allow each teacher to create their own itinerary. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and promote this important day.
The event content will encompass a wide variety of unique Indigenous cultural and historical demonstrations such as music, art and traditional teachings, curated through pre-recorded videos, recorded by various Indigenous presenters and hosted by Huronia Historical Parks.
Please remember, that even though we cannot be together in person on June 21, 2021, it is important to celebrate the heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
As attractions of the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries we are taking the necessary steps to plan for employee and public health and safety. Once it is deemed safe to do so, we look forward to welcoming our staff back and inviting visitors to experience the historical sites and the many special events we have to offer.
