Health and Physical Fitness Day (May 27, 2022) is an annual event that has been hosted by your local CFB Borden PSP team for several years now. On this day, your local PSP team has typically provided a variety of activities to promote the different ways that one can use to maintain and even improve their health and wellbeing.
Health is a state of physical, mental, and social wellbeing. What this means is that overall health requires a balance of all three categories. Therefore, we need to focus our efforts to maintain or improve our wellbeing in all three categories.
Mental health or mental wellbeing consists of our ability to be psychologically and emotionally resilient. It is our ability to bounce back after struggling with difficult situations and adversity. There are many ways to maintain and/or improve on your mental wellbeing. The time you take for yourself, positive stress management strategies, having and using your social support network are all things that can be done to help you maintain your wellbeing.
The more activities that you regularly perform that focus on mental wellbeing the better. Imagine a charging station for your phone. Overnight, you probably charge your phone so that it does not run out of power the following day. If you forget to charge it, you are probably using it while it is on low or on energy save mode more often and it is closer to running out of power then it normally is. Your mind and body are similar. You need to regularly “re-charge” in order to not come close to running out of “power” and the more activities you regularly perform that help you “re-charge” the better off you are.
On Health and Physical Fitness Day, there will be a passport and activities that highlight where and how you can improve on your mental wellbeing. Should you fill out your passport with activities in all three areas of health (physical, social, and mental), you will be eligible to win some great prizes. Activities that fall under the mental wellbeing section and help you re-charge include a yoga class, an interactive briefing on financial wellness and another briefing called Movement is Medicine.
Join PSP on 27 May to start “re-charging”!
