At CFB Borden’s St. Joseph Chapel, we’ve been continuously improving how we share our religious services online. For almost two years, we’ve been streaming our Sunday Mass live on Facebook.
We’re very grateful to the St. Joseph Chapel congregation for providing technical and logistical support and helping us livestream every Sunday. By using electronic equipment to stream our Mass, we’ve been able to reach people in their living rooms, allowing them to join our Sunday worship in spirit from the comfort of their own homes.
Many virtual congregants have told us how much they enjoy feeling united with us in mind and in spirit. This sense of closeness and this need to come together, even virtually, has been expressed by a number of people, including a woman in Laval, Quebec, who told us that the livestreams “have kept us connected to our faith during these difficult pandemic times.” We’ve also received appreciative comments from military members overseas in Latvia, Kuwait and Station Alert, who’ve been able to fit our Mass into their time zones by watching the recordings. As a member stationed in Kuwait put it, “It’s a way for us to feel a bit more at home.”
We stream our Mass on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in French and 11:15 a.m. in English.
To continue our mission of making the chapel’s activities more visible and accessible, we’re now planning to install equipment in our chapel permanently. By doing so, we’ll be able to get more word out about our pastoral activities in both official languages and further solidify our digital presence. This will help us reach even more people through our religious services, giving them the chance to celebrate their faith in a personal way at home when circumstances prevent them from going to the chapel in person.
We will therefore be able to stay connected in spirit through prayer and give everyone the chance to join us in spiritual communion and practise their faith with CFB Borden’s St. Joseph Chapel.
