A volunteer appreciation event on 19 Nov to WinterFest at Canada’s Wonderland was made even more special with a $5,000 cheque presentation from the CANEX Gives Back program.
Before the group of volunteers departed to Canada’s Wonderland, CANEX representatives presented the cheque to LCol Natalie Cathcart, Commanding Officer of the Personnel Support Services unit, which oversees operations of Personnel Support Programs (PSP). The annual initiative allocates profits from CANEX to PSP and the Borden Family Resource Centre (BFRC) for events such as the WinterFest outing to show appreciation for our much-needed volunteers and all that they do for military members and their families at Borden.
Youth and adult volunteers contribute regularly on base through the BFRC, PSP summer camps, Base Borden Community Council, annual events like the Borden Blast, and much more.
“A lot of these programs would not happen without volunteers giving back to military families, and I know a lot of military also volunteer,” said LCol Cathcart. “So thank you for doing your part and making these programs happen.”
“On behalf of CANEX we want to thank each and every one of you for what you do,” said Tom Bennet, CANEX store manager. “We’re extremely proud to be able to support this program through CANEX gives back, but that wouldn’t be possible without all of your donations of your time and your expertise.”
Volunteers attending the appreciation event at WinterFest each received a goodie bag with festive accessories, a meal voucher, and a cup for bottomless hot chocolate to keep warm at Canada’s Wonderland on the chilly day.
