In the presence of the Canadian Forces Health Services Training Centre (CFHSTC) staff and students, along with family and guests, Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Lucie Alain passed the drill cane to CWO Robert Barber during a Change of Appointment Ceremony presided over by the centre’s commandant and various CFB Borden command teams on 3 July.
CWO Lucie Alain arrived at the CFHSTC from the CF Health Services Group (CFHSG) headquarters in Ottawa in 2016 and was the first medical laboratory technologist to attain the position of training centre CWO. Her tenure has been a busy one, with the training centre running at full capacity and more than 3000 students come through the doors. In addition, she was instrumental in the revitalisation of the CFHSG’s historical holdings, which are housed at the training centre.
In her speech, CWO Alain thanked several individuals, including her company sergeant majors, for supporting her successful tenure. Leaving the most important person to the end of her speech, she thanked her husband, Glenn Vallée, for his support over her three-year posting.
“Thank you for taking care of our family and everything I left behind,” she said.
The CFHSTC commandant, Commander Gauthier, paid tribute to CWO Alain’s service and emphasized the added responsibility she held, as the CFHSTC is “Home Station” of both the Royal Canadian Medical Services (RCMS) and Royal Canadian Dental Corps. He also noted that not only is she the first medical laboratory technologist to become the training centre’s CWO, but she will also be the first to be appointed as RCMS CWO in her next posting.
Her replacement, CWO Robert Barber, newly arrived from CFHSG headquarters, is now the second preventive medicine technician to hold the position. During his speech, he outlined his belief in lifelong learning and importance of the call to serve.
“I pledge to do my utmost to be a proponent and example of learning and service in my tenure at CFHSTC,” he said.
Entourée du personnel et des stagiaires du Centre d’instruction des Services de santé des Forces canadiennes (CISSFC ) ainsi que de famille et d’invités, l’adjudant-chef Lucie Alain, l’Adjuc du Centre d’instruction, a remis la canne du CISSFC à l’Adjuc Robert Barber au cours de la cérémonie de transfert de fonctions qui a eu lieu dans la salle d’entraînement intérieure du CISSFC le 3 juillet 2019. Le capitaine de frégate Nicolas Gauthier, commandant du Centre d’instruction, a présidé la cérémonie en présence d’autres équipes de commandement de la BFC Borden.
C’est en 2016 que l’Adjuc Alain a quitté le Quartier général du Groupe des Services de santé pour atterrir au CISSFC. Elle était la première technologue de laboratoire médical à occuper le poste d’adjudant-chef du Centre d’instruction. Au cours de son mandat chargé, le Centre d’instruction fonctionnait à plein régime, et plus de 3000 stagiaires ont franchi son seuil. De plus, elle a joué un rôle-clé dans la revitalisation des documents historiques des Groupes des Services de santé des Forces canadiennes, conservés au Centre d’instruction.
Dans son discours, l’Adjuc Alain a remercié plusieurs personnes, dont ses sergents-majors de compagnie, pour leur contribution à son succès en tant qu’adjudant-chef du Centre d’instruction. Gardant la personne la plus importante pour la fin, elle a remercié son mari, Glenn Vallée, de son soutien tout au long de son affectation en restriction imposée de trois ans : « Je te remercie d’avoir pris soin de notre famille et de tout ce que j’ai laissé entre tes mains ».
Le Capf Gauthier a rendu hommage au travail de l’Adjuc Alain au Centre d’instruction et a mis l’accent sur les responsabilités importantes de l’adjudant-chef du Centre d’instruction, étant donné que le CISSFC est la maison mère du Service de santé royal canadien (SSRC) et du Corps dentaire royal canadien. Il a aussi mentionné que non seulement l’Adjuc Alain a été la première technologue de laboratoire médical à occuper le poste d’Adjuc du Centre d’instruction, mais elle sera aussi la première à prendre le poste d’adjudant-chef du SSRC, ce qui sera officialisé au cours d’une cérémonie qui se déroulera dans les prochaines semaines.
Le nouvel adjudant-chef du Centre d’instruction, l’Adjuc Robert Barber, a laissé derrière lui le Quartier général du Groupe des Services de santé, et est le deuxième technicien en médecine préventive à occuper ce poste. Au cours de son premier discours en tant qu’Adjuc du Centre d’instruction, il a souligné son adhérence en l’apprentissage perpétuel et en l’importance de l’appel au service : « Je jure de faire tout ce qui est en mon pouvoir pour être un promoteur et un exemple de l’apprentissage et du service pendant mon mandat ».
