The time has once again arrived for us as Canadians to participate in the Earth Hour 2024 international event
The purpose of this event is to encourage people all around the globe, to turn off their lights for one hour to show their support for the fight on climate change. The birth of the Earth Hour campaign first began on 31 March 2007 in Sydney Australia with the question “How can people be inspired to take action on climate change?” Since that day the Earth Hour campaign has grown into a global movement, inspiring millions of people around the world to join the fight on climate change. In 2023 hundreds of millions of people in roughly 150 countries turned off their lights for one hour in support of the Earth Hour campaign. Here in Canada millions of Canadians in all the provinces and territories took part in this campaign, once again showing the rest of the world that there is nothing we can’t do when we are presented with a challenge. It is as simple as a flick of the switch, do you accept the challenge?

Re-enforce your commitment for the fight on climate change by supporting the Earth Hour 2024 campaign by “turning off your lights” on Saturday, 23 March 2024 from 2030 hrs – 2130 hrs.
Remember: “THE POWER IS IN YOUR HANDS!”
Below are a few initiatives that CFB Borden personnel can action in order for CFB Borden to show its support for the fight on climate change. Before you leave on Friday, 22 March 2024:
- Shut off all interior lighting in your individual facilities (overhead lighting, task lighting).
- Turn off all non critical electronic equipment (printers, photocopiers, computers, faxes, radios, coffee machines).
Below are a few initiatives that you can action at home, in order for you to show support for the fight on climate change. On Saturday, 23 March 2024 from 2030 hrs – 2130 hrs ensure that you:
- Shut off all of your interior lighting. (overhead fixtures, task lighting).
- Shut off all of your exterior lighting (porch lights, lights above garage, decorative lighting).
- Visit www.earthhour.org and sign up for this campaign to further support the fight on climate change.
